Moyock’s Josh Bass has been appointed to the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board.

Bass was selected to serve on the state tourism board by NC Speaker of the House Joe Hackney. His appointment is effective January 1, 2011 and will continue through December 2012.

Bass will serve on the state board as a member associated with a tourist attraction. He serves on the Whalehead Preservation Trust for the historic Whalehead Club in Corolla and is vice-chairman of the Friends of the Outer Banks History Center.

“I’m very humbled and honored to be named to the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board,” said Bass. “I’m grateful to Speaker Hackney for the appointment and to Representative Bill Owens for submitting my name for consideration.

“This appointment shows that the Currituck Outer Banks is known across the state as a world class vacation destination,” Bass said. “Serving on the state tourism board will provide Currituck a platform to ensure the people across the state know about the top-notch attractions we have here in our county.”

The 29-member NC Travel and Tourism Board is made up of professionals from the tourism/hospitality industry and key elected officials from throughout the state. Its purpose is to advise the Secretary of Commerce in the formulation of policy and priorities for the promotion and development of travel and tourism in North Carolina. The board also recommends programs and advises the Secretary of Commerce on the development of a budget for the NC Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development.

“It’s exciting to have a Currituck County resident appointed to the state tourism board,” said Diane Nordstrom, Director of Currituck County’s Travel and Tourism Department. “Josh will certainly be an asset to the board, considering his extensive knowledge of Currituck County and its many historical and cultural attractions.”

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.
